In some cases, infection persists at root end in spite of repeat root canal treatment. In such cases infected root end is surgically removed to clean out the infection under the effect of local anaesthesia.
A small opening is made near the tooth by reflecting the gum tissue away from the tooth.
The infected root end is removed. A small filling is placed at the root end to seal it and the opening in the gum is closed.
